This Privacy Policy explains how Equivaleat ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Equivaleat app (the "App"). By creating an account and accepting this policy, you consent to the practices described below. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Account information: your email address, which is used to sign in. Your password is stored encrypted by our authentication provider (Google Firebase) and is never stored by us. Preferences: the allergies, dietary pattern, and nutrition goals you choose, which are saved to your account and applied on this device to personalize the App. Profile picture: if you upload one, it is stored with our cloud provider. Local device data: product barcode scans, recently viewed items, and favorites are stored locally on your device only and are not uploaded. Camera: if you grant camera access, the camera is used only to scan barcodes; no images or video are recorded or uploaded.
We use your information to create and manage your account, personalize recommendations and product information based on your preferences, apply your preferences to the App, display your profile picture, and operate, secure, and improve the App.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process your data to perform our contract with you (providing the account and App services), based on your consent (which you give when creating an account), and to pursue our legitimate interests (operating and securing the service). You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
The App uses local storage on your device to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences and recently viewed items. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell your data.
Account and preference data is stored with Google Firebase (Firestore and Storage), which may process data in the United States and other regions. Local data (barcode scans, recent items, favorites) stays on your device only.
Google Firebase provides authentication, data storage, and Hosting (see the Google Privacy Policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy). Product and nutrition data is sourced from USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts. These third parties process data under their own policies.
We keep your account data and preferences for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen, which removes your stored preferences and account. Some data may be retained where required by law or for legitimate purposes.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can manage your preferences and delete your account within the App, or contact us at support@equivaleat.sierock.com for access, export, or other requests.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including the security safeguards provided by our service provider. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The App is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States, where our service providers are located. Where required, we rely on recognized safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes here and, for significant changes, may notify you within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
